Musicians performing during Festival Mozaic’s Mozart in the Mission concert opened their afternoon rehearsal to the public on Wednesday.
The actual concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Mission San Luis Obispo, but some music lovers got a free sneak peek.
The program features pieces by Mozart and Haydn, complete with percussion instruments that “evoke the sounds of old world Turkish military marching bands.”
“We do a lot of classical and baroque music,” explained Lloyd Tanner, Festival Mozaic’s Executive Director. “This (mission) was built in the 1700s and this music was written during that period so it’s pretty unique to play in a building where these compositions were being performed.”
It’s just one of many concerts taking place during Festival Mozaic. The music festival continues through August 4 at venues around San Luis Obispo.
